The filming of the series was completed on 10 hectares of land over the west part of Tehran, specifically, the Ghazali Cinematic Town Complex. Directed by Hasan Fathi and written by Naghmeh Samini, Shahrzad is the story of a love broken apart by events of the 1953 coup that overthrew the elected prime minister.

Like most shows in the country, Shahrzad is censor approved, but that doesn't mean that the storyline is bland. The actual filming completed in four months, and it became known as the largest project ever produced in the private sector. Due to the in-depth nature of the series and the heavy-hitting political storyline, the show was in pre-production for two years. The series has 28 episodes and features 200 unique artists who worked on the project.
